I am sitting in Starbucks with my Barack Obama shirt on, and I've gotten two "nice shirt"s from my fellow coffee drinkers. That makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
I signed up to receive a text message when Obama picks his VP. You can do by going to
this link. It's got to be announced soon. The convention is in 2 weeks. (August 25-28.) I'm torn between wanting Hillary on the ticket, and wanting Tim Kaine - governor of my state, Virginia - to get the spot. If Kaine gets on the ticket, Virginia is a sure thing in the fall.
But then, I'm increasingly confident that Virginia will be blue in November either way. It's really exciting. Virginia hasn't gone for a Democratic candidate since LBJ in 1964, so we generally don't get a lot of attention when there's a presidential race. In 2004, I saw maybe 2 presidential ads, and they were both for Bush - and they aired on Fox News. (Yeah, I unfortunately watched Fox News for a couple minutes. I was doing research!) This year I've seen a metric fuckton of ads, for both McCain and Obama. Although lately I'm seeing a lot more McCain ads - the Obama team needs to get on that. But whatever, it's a really exciting time. For the first time in 40 years, Virginia is a swing state and we're getting treated like Florida or Ohio.
In other news, I'm reading a book called
Debunked which takes on conspiracy theories and urban legends, such as that 9/11 was an inside job and that there's a "war on Christmas". It's really good. I wasn't expecting much, because Richard Roeper once pissed me off by saying the Dove ads with realistic, unretouched women were ugly or whatever, but he's actually a pretty solid liberal. And it's crazy the conspiracy theories that are out there, especially about 9/11. People are nuts.

LOL, fiscal conservative. SO TRUE.
