I'm thinking she'll win it. Since MA, NJ, and CA were the hotly contested states, I'll say it was a good night for her. I'm hearing lots about how Obama can now go into the race as someone who can carry southern states, but honestly, he won PRIMARIES and CAUCASES for DEMOCRATS. That says absolutely nothing about how he'd fair against a Republican (Alabama will vote red; people are kidding themselves if they think otherwise). I think it's fair to say it was a tie, but a part of me thinks Obama is going to lose, and Hil's going to get the nomination. Don't know where that's coming from, since I'm usually a pessimist about these things, but she took NY and CA, and she'll take TX (thus making my world complete for a day). And then...she'll get the nomination. Even though the current primary schedule is very positive for Obama, I still sense an HRC nod. Hmm. Maybe I've just been up too late?
Polls (which obviously don't mean anything in the end really) do show Obama doing better nationwide against Republican candidates than Hillary. He clearly can contend better in the South than her. Maybe not win like you said, but contend. And while that doesn't bring in electoral votes, it does force the Republicans to spend time and money fighting in states they normally could take for granted. Although McCain sort of has a similar impact on the Democrats as well, especially if Hillary is the nominee
( ... )
I have the feeling that Mac and Hil kinda cancel each other out. They're both divisive figures, from what I can tell. (Although Obama and Mac both appeal to the same moderate/independents, and crossover voters, so between them it would become a bit of a war, I think.)
I dunno...Obama's very faddish (I'm probably going to get jumped for that one), and I think some of his momentum will die down as we head to the Convention (obviously I'll eat my boot if we don't, but I digress). Texas, meanwhile, will go Hillary. Travis County (Austin, where I live) will go Obama, as they have since day one, but the rest of Texas will go Hillary. Out West, for every redneck that hates her, there's a Democrat without health care that thinks she's the sun. As for other states...it's definitely in Obama's favor, but we'll see. =\
I just think if it comes down to Hillary vs. McCain that Hillary is going to lose a lot of moderate Democrat votes, especially people in the military. Having just talked to several of my Floridian friends, there was a few who would heavily consider voting for McCain instead. They're Democrats, but they respect McCain's military/foreign knowledge so much that they have to consider him. I wouldn't be too happy with President McCain...but I would be very upset at Vice President Huckabee.
I really see no way either candidate wins before the convention...I have no idea what they're gonna do.
Yeah, the military thing is definitely going to be an issue, but it'll be an issue for both Obama and Hillary. She does have Wes Clark endorsing her, though. I wonder if that'll be brought up?
Huckabee scares the shit outta me. =[ THAT is my worst nightmare.
