Update: Dodd makes like Tom Petty

He's willing to filibuster any attempt to give the telecomms retroactive immunity for their crimes against us. From Dodd's YouTube statement:

I don't believe it's right for telephone companies to be turning over the private telephone records of American citizens to the Bush Administration without prior judicial approval. This is a basic, fundamental right of privacy in our country, and I'm going to do everything I can to see to it that Congress strips this provision out of the bill. I will do everything I can, including filibustering this legislation, if necessary.

I hope it is the hold would work, but if it doesn't, I am prepared go to the floor of the United States Senate and filibuster. I don't do that, very, very rarely have I done it, but I cannot any longer tolerate this administration's drumbeat, here, to deprive us of basic rights of this nation, here. This false dichotomy, that we're only going to be safer if we give up our rights, is something I cannot stand for any longer.

And it sounds like Feingold has his (and our) back. Harry Reid, meanwhile, lookin' weasely, and I'd love to know what Clinton and Obama plan to do, and where Edwards stands. If you read LR you've probably caught on that I like Edwards (and Luna's a Hil gal), but that didn't stop me from signing on to support Dodd's hold.

ETA: Biden's down for a filibuster too.

Exhibit W for why we can't just trust the phone companies... and why we need net neutrality... Verizon wasn't gonna let Planned Parenthood mass-send messages to Verizon customers who had asked to receive them.

In other constitutional news, the Judiciary Committee has been interviewing Alberto Gonzales's proposed replacement. But it sounds like Mukasey's a bad egg.

Completely OT, but this cracked me up: Australia's new road safety campaign implies men who speed have tiny penises. Even better? It seems to be working. (Now if only the same could be said for my, "I'm so sorry your dick is so tiny, Hummer owners" campaign.) Youtube link to the ad: Speeding: no one thinks big of you.
