Gonzales to resign

Aug 27, 2007 16:18

Gonzales is resigning.

Paying tribute to Mr Gonzales, Mr Bush said on Monday that he had been subjected to "months of unfair treatment" and that "his good name was dragged through the mud for political reasons".

No one's actually buying this "accuse your opponents of doing what you're doing" shit anymore, right?

For those keeping score at home, the tally of resignations in the last year is now four: Gonzales, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, and Rove.

Five if you count Tony Snow, although having cancer is a far more reasonable excuse to step down than "spending time with family" when your daughter's in college (that was Rove). (Not that that's the excuse Snow used; he said it was for "financial reasons".)

ETA: Via missmurchison: Rahm Emmanuel: "Alberto Gonzales is the first Attorney General who thought the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth were three different things." Bwah! Well played, sir. And Reid says the investigation into the U.S. Attorney firings will continue, which is good.
