As of 10:16pm EST:
++
In Rhode Island:
Moderate Republican Sen. Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island, his political career at risk from a more conservative challenger, led in early returns Tuesday in a contest that could be crucial in the larger fight for control of Congress.
With 11 percent of precincts reporting, Chafee had 7,052 votes, or 55 percent, to Cranston Mayor Steve Laffey's 5,698 votes, or 45 percent.
I'm not sure if I who I want to win in Rhode Island. Personally, I like Chafee but wish he'd lose so we'd be guarenteed a Dem pickup in November.
ETA: With
78% of precincts reporting, Chafee leads 54% to 46%.
++ In Maryland, there were a
ton of problems after the malfunctioning Diebold machines prompted a judge's order to keep polls open later & confused all the poll workers. *boggles* I'm glad I wasn't voting in Montgomery County today.
As for the actual
election results, Ben Cardin has a very solid lead with 6% of precincts reporting. Yay! I liked Ben Cardin best out of the available choices.
++ The only other results I care about today is the
DC Mayor's Race, which I'm hoping Adrian Fenty wins. Note: because DC is so heavily Democratic, the primary is basically the final election.
ETA:
Whoo hoo!Adrian M. Fenty won the Democratic primary for mayor of Washington today, setting the stage for him to become the youngest ever chief executive of the nation's capital.
Fenty claimed victory shortly before 10:30 p.m. with 57 percent of the vote to 32 percent for Council Chairman Linda W. Cropp, with 75 percent of the city's precincts reporting, according to returns posted by the D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics.
That didn't take long!
