BBC News: Top scientist's fears for climate:

"We are not talking anymore about what climate models say might happen in the future.

"We are experiencing dangerous human disruption of the global climate and we're going to experience more," Professor Holdren said.

He emphasised the seriousness of the melting Greenland ice cap, saying that without drastic action the world would experience more heatwaves, wild fires and floods.

He added that if the current pace of change continued, a catastrophic sea level rise of 4m (13ft) this century was within the realm of possibility; much higher than previous forecasts.

He also blames President Bush for not investing more in alternative energy research.

But not all is bleak... California passes tough new emissions law.

Under the law, major industries will be required to cut their output of greenhouse gases and will be able to trade emissions credits.

Overall, California's emissions should be cut by 25% by 2020...

Last month, [Mr Schwarzenegger] signed an accord with British Prime Minister Tony Blair establishing joint research into cleaner-burning fuels and technologies.

They quote Dr. Holdren in this article too, saying the law may be too little too late, but since it's the same quote as the other article, I think they're just extrapolating to be party poopers. Not everything is bleak, you hear me BBC News?
