LA Times:
After spending more than $70 million, the Democratic pair were locked in a statistical dead heat to become the opponent of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in the November.
The major race was the Democratic primary, but voters also got decide a host of other offices from city halls to state government. The eyes of many national political pundits were focused on San Diego County, where a special election was viewed as a test of the GOP's ability to maintain control of Congress.
Polls across the state closed at 8 p.m. ending a day where most voters decided to stay away and a significant number of those who did vote chose to cast their ballots by mail.
About 15.7 million people statewide are registered to vote. Some 1.3 million voted by mail and those votes were counted until noon today.
It "just seems like a very slow election day," said Eileen Shea, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder Office. Officials expect the turnout to hit about 38%, she said.
Polls only closed like 15 minutes ago in California, but here on the East Coast it's time for Luna to get to beddy bye. ::yawns::
In other election news, uber-fundie Roy Moore (the 10 Commandments statue judge guy) was
defeated in an Alabama GOP primary. Phew!
