On a related note, I've been meaning to post this about
"Rock the Casbah" for awhile but never had the chance:
It has been reported that "Rock the Casbah" was an unofficial anthem for the American army during the first Gulf War (the line about dropping "bombs between the minarets" being particularly relevant). This has been seen as highly ironic, if not downright insulting, by many Clash fans, given the band's well established left-wing politics and anti-war stance.
That goes way beyond playing
"Every Breath You Take" at weddings and not seeing the creep factor.
I wish I knew how to compartmentalize that successfully.
