Hillary Clinton: Too Much of a Clinton Democrat?

Hillary Clinton has a few problems if she wants to secure the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination. She is a leader who fails to lead. She does not appear "electable." But most of all, Hillary has a Bill Clinton problem. (And no, it's not about thatMoving into 2008, ( Read more... )

Yeah, I'm with you, I see it as the complete opposite...almost everybody views the Clinton years as a high point in recent American history. Even the extremist Clinton hating Republicans can't deny the results. Hate the Clintons all you want, but it was 8 years of peace and prosperity, two things Bush can only dream about.

Although I personally don't know how electable Hillary is, saying she's a liability by being connected to the results of the Clinton administration is pretty crazy. I just see her as having all the problems Kerry did (being seen as a snooty Yankee intellectual) plus more.

The unfortunate reality of the situation is that it seems that only southern, moderate governors can be elected president anymore. Don't forget, even Reagan had to throw on a cowboy hat and pretend to be a rancher so that he wasn't viewed as a Hollywood tool. So while I see Warner and that crowd as being unlikely to get the nomination over Hillary, I do see them being much more electable than her in the long run.

I WANT Hillary for President. Desperately. Do I think the American people will elect her? Not unless there's someone else on the ticket (like Obama, mayhaps?) who they adore. Not going to stop me from dreaming, though. She'd be fantastic...or Barbara Boxer. If only for the debates. She's kickass at that.

I am really, really, with extra special really sauce, starting to hate Markos. In general, although I do think Hil's kind of a lousy candidate, what with the lack of actual experience that's an easy thing for the opposition to capitalize on. I'd say the same for Obama.

Some days I miss ol' Bubba's presidency with a passion so intense I can't believe I was once pretty oblivious to politics. That said, while I think Hillary would be a damned good president, I don't think America will elect a woman (this is sadness to me, but I think it's still true), no matter WHAT her political stripe.

In America, a woman president is still the stuff of fiction... and even that's failing in the ratings.

And when we do elect a woman president, the first one may well be a Republican woman. There are so many Democratic women who would cross party lines to elect a female president. I'm not one of them, but then, I have a massive hate-on for the modern Republican Party, and I'm so far left I'm practically a socialist. ;-)

Luckily for us, I don't think the Republican Party would have the nerve to alienate their sexist, Bible Belt base.

These days I think I skew Socialist, myself. But on the plus side, I had Severely Republican Parents - so they don't breed true (and my mom, bless her, can't stand Bush, and is even willing to admit these days that Bill was a good president).

1) You're right, Russ Feingold won't get, and Al Gore wouldn't accept, the Democratic nomination in '08 ( ... )
