No Child's Behind Left by Greg Palast exposes some of the egregious class discrimination in the NCLB test to pass third grade. Included are questions about tennis, which, Williams sisters not withstanding, is usually not a sport working class people play.

Helpfully, for the kids in our 'hood, it explains that a "country club" is a, "place where people meet." Yes, but which people?
Not only that, but this question stumped me for a split second, and I've played tennis (under protest) and graduated from college. Of course the answer is J, because a club is not a court, but my first instinct was H. My thought process was, "Aren't country clubs for golf?" Obviously I'm not upper class enough, whatever shall I do? Well, if I were eight years old, maybe not pass the third grade.

If Alito is confirmed, it could mean a tipping point on issues of execuive power. Then there's this entry at the blog FireDogLake, about how Samuel Alito's excuse (or the excuse the GOP is making for him) for belonging to CAP is bullshit. Not that this is surprising. What disturbed me most was this picture:
AUGH! OMGWTF is on your head? That's not a hat, that's an ERECT PLUSH PENIS WITH EARSMUDFLAPS! Why, why do you have a giant grey erect penis on your head? *cries*
That guy's gonna be presidentSecretary of something some day. *shudder*

On the bright side, here's 4 Reasons to Be Glad Bush Is Still President. Basically, if he hadn't gotten a second term, he would have gotten out of dealing with the consequences of his disastrous policies, and all the scandals that are breaking now would have faded. So in a way, I guess you could say this second term of his may be cleansing. If we survive it.
