Daschle contradicts Administration spin

Dec 23, 2005 01:31

Wow. Watch the excuses evaporate like dew on a summer's day. Daschle: Right after 9-11, the President asked for the blanket right to act inside the U.S., and we said no.

Another excuse up in smoke: they listened in on purely domestic calls, too.

The mainstream press is starting to use the I-word: impeachment.

And after one FISA judge quit, others are asking if the Bush administration used evidence from the illegal wiretaps to get FISA warrants. They also want to know what made the administration think what they were doing was legal. Star chamber to Bush: WTF? (In tangentially related news, New York City cops are going undercover at protests, and tainting them while they're at it. Why am I not surprised.)

Meanwhile, word has it that lobbyist Jack Abramoff is close to making a deal with prosecutors, which could mean he could testify against dozens in Congress. And under the radar, Patrick Fitzgerald is believed to be moving towards indicting Karl Rove.

When the state of the news gets you down, remember: it's a bad time to be a criminal Republican. Let's hope the coming year is even less kind to them.
