US Death Toll Reaches 2,100. That didn't take long.

I love how the one thing all these disparate groups can agree on is wanting us gone. The only conflict seems to have been whether they'd come right out and say it was ok to attack U.S. troops. They didn't quite go that far, but they did basically say it's not terrorism if it's not targeting Iraqis. Think about what it says that giving tacit permission to attack American soldiers is the political middle ground in Iraq now. When 45% of Iraqis think attacks on U.S. forces are justified, the political mainstream can't really call that terrorism. (Although, the Bush administration thinks they can claim anybody they like is a terrorist, and anyone who disagrees with them a bad American.)

We should not be there one day longer than is necessary to keep the new government from toppling. To me, that means we need to stay the next few weeks until the Iraqi elections, and if the winners of those elections ask us to go, we should go. They certainly have a vested interest in their own survival, so I think we should trust their opinions.
