Being Texan doesn't explain it. Born and raised, and absolutely nobody I know can condone or support the Confederate flag and it's symbolism. We think it's on par with the Nazi flag.

Not to say I don't see the Confederate flag around here more than I would like. Point of fact, I had to drive past this business every day to work that hung it up. But it was taken down rather promptly when we ended up taking in several thousand Hurricane Katrina evacuees. It was replaced temporarily with the Mexican flag, of all things. But that was when the Mexican army gave us a surprise visit in San Antonio to help with the Hurricane Katrina efforts. That's gone now, but so is the Confederate flag. I think/hope that enough people complained about it, or it was so bad for business, or y'know, the business owner grew a brain, that the Confederate flag had to be taken down.

But, in summary, as much as I have to recognize that Texas is filled with some of the most idiot redneck Republican nutjobs as the next red state, I really don't think there is much support for the Confederate flag by the general populace. Just the idiot redneck Republican nutjobs.
