Is Iran Iraq #2?

Feb 14, 2007 21:27

For a while it has been sounding much like Iraq. Iran seems to become the target #1 on Bush's hit list. Trumpeted up charges, secretive evidence, loud words, incriminations. But are they true? Or is the course of events, which led to the Iraq invasion, is beginning anew, with a different target in sights?

Latter now seems more likely than the former.

General Pace now declines to endorse the Bush administration’s claims against Tehran.

On Sunday, anonymous administration officials presented evidence purportedly showing that weapons have been smuggled into Iraq with “the approval of senior Iranian officials.” Yesterday, Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Peter Pace seemed to contradict this claim, saying that he has not seen evidence that the Iranian government “clearly knows or is complicit” in the weapons smuggling.

Today on CNN, CentCom Commander William Fallon, the top commander of U.S. forces in the Middle East, was asked about the administration’s claim. Fallon said, “I have no idea who may be actually with hands-on in this stuff.”

The military leaders are now contradicting Bush? Not new but more and more persistent.

From the Who cares what I said Earlier Department:

The Scooter Libby investigation seems to indicate that atleast three other senior Bush Administration officials have sold Valerie Plame out even before Scooter did. That list includes Carl Rove and Dick Cheney.

So much more telling in this light becomes the refusal of the Veep to testify in support of Libby

bush lies, iran, gop, administration, bush, politics
