Massachusetts heartbreak

Jan 21, 2010 11:31

It was hard to even imagine three weeks ago but it has happened. Scott Brown (R) defeated Martha Coakley (D) for the US Senate seat previously occupied by the liberal legend Ted Kennedy (R), 52%-47%. For the first time since early 1970s this state sent a Republican to the Senate.

What happened?
Now, Scott Brown led an excellent insurgent campaign and Nartha Coakley had led barely any campaign. She even took a Caribbean vacation after winning the primary probably thinking that she had wrapped this thing up. but what would make a liberal state's independent vote for Scott Brown? Beats me. it is, perhaps, some sort of a Democratic backlash. It certainly should have nothing to do with the Healthcare bill as Massachusetts already has the healthcare legislation far more liberal than the health Care Bill that is being prepared in US Congress.

Maybe voters feel that the US Congress is not addressing the issue they care the most about? That's a far more likely reason. The economy, in my opinion, has not been sufficiently addressed. Or, perhaps, media hasn't given it enough mention behind the health Care bill...
