Pang of Hometown Pride (aka: Hannah won!!)

I know NBC has been showing Hannah Kearney montages like crazy, cause let's face it, network tv is crazy.  However, I can't feel a pang of hometown pride for her winning gold.  She went to my high school and was in fact a year behind me.  I wasn't friends with her, but she was alwaysl known for her love of skiing and it is satisfying to see that ( Read more... )

I know EXACTLY HOW YOU FEEL!!! I posted the following earlier on a very intimate internet forum I go to sometimes:

"so my favorite fucking part of the olympic leadup in canada is "omg let's win gold at home FOR THE FIRST TIME!!!!!"

which is really fucking funny considering canada has already hosted TWO of the fucking things. the canadian newsmagazine had a special about this multi-million dollar SECRET PROJECT for canadians to WIN LOTS OF GOLD that basically involved using computers (fail)

so i think a lot of people have heard about the canada olympic MOGUL FAIL committed by the canadian girl who's FIRST in the fucking WORLD for this shit. i heard about it from somebody's iphone last night. you know, somebody goes "DID THE CANADIAN WIN" and he goes "no...it's-"

you know who beat her? HANNAH FUCKING KEARNEY.

Hannah Kearney was in my biology class, philosophy, and a slew of others in middle and high school. we weren't ever ever omg bff but we definitely talked about life planning and i was all "i'm going to college!!!!" and she was all "erm yeah skiing."

i had NO FUCKING IDEA she'd gotten THIS GOOD. most articles about the event focus on the canada fail, but here's a nice article from my local back-home newspaper about who she is and how hard she rules:

I know, right?

crazy times. Dan and Whit's sent her a t-shirt, there are rumors Ben and Jerry's will create a flavor for her and the local news film some Norwich/Hanoverites being oh so awkward/proud in our New Englandy way.

Erica and I pondered that the Dartmouth region is good at creating rich, successful, but not well known people. We'll have to see how this rash bout of celebrity pans out.
