Wow! I fucking *adore* them! They are so unusual! Where do the designs come from? Do you plan to go all the way down your back? Hope you don't mind me saving the pic to my hard drive? My friend is training to be a tattooist and he loves unusual tattoos, I really want him to see these!

no problem at all with saving of the picture, thank you for your compliments! They are rastafarian symbols that each mean something different. Every few months I get more of them and in time they'll go all the way down my spine. Once I feel like I've accomplished what that symbol means, I get it tattooed on my spine. My vision is to have these qualities that I've accomplished be skin deep, and in my bones to have everlasting meaning. I'm so corny! so far my symbols mean; 1. mistakes can be rectified 2. overcoming barriers, movement, and progression 3. defiance, independnce, resourcefulness 4. feminine virtue and everlasting love
I also have a dove of peace on the left side of my chest to symbolize peace in my heart :)

Thats beautiful. It really is. My tattoos have always been about important stages in my life. I feel its very important to remember where you have come from and what you have accomplished. Are you rastafarian then, or have you just borrowed the symbology?
Re: random question! and hello!jazztasticJanuary 13 2006, 14:24:50 UTC
my family jokingly always call me their "rasta peace child," and my friends do say I'm rasta... but what is in a name, as our good friend shakespeare once said. I don't believe too strongly in organized religion.. I feel like if you are going to believe in something, it should really matter to you and you shouldn't be limited to one belief. I think the rastafarians really have a point with their message of peace and love and understanding. I live by it, but I don't follow the nit-picky things like not eating salt, or not drinking coffee. So yes, in a way, I guess I am but in a way, I'm not. I follow the Buddhist religion pretty closely too I'm really looking forward to one day (soon HOPEFULLY!) traveling to Nepal to the Kathmandu Valley. I would like a lotus (a nickname that goes with Buddhism) tattooed on the inside of my palm, but as you probably know from your own extensive ink, the ink won't stay. :(

I agree with you. The bottom line of pretty much every religion preaches the same message so I don't narrow down my belief system. I like having an open mind about such matters and find life much more satisfying if I don't pin myself down.
But how about on your wrist? I have a wrist tattoo and I adore the placement. It can either be completely hidden (as Queen Elizabeth hid hers with a solid gold bangle) or extremley visible. You could have the leaves and stalk leading up your arm slightly.

That is also something i've thought about. But first maybe I should explain, my parents are pretty crazy.. haha and I'm a big family person. I like to keep them happy but its hard sometimes. If my parents ever knew about my tattoos.... I believe my mother said, "if you ever get any tattoos, i will drag you by any body to the doctor and have it removed immediately, and then I would run you over in the parking lot." haha! Unfortunately, my parents still don't understand that what is mine, is mine, and I am going to tattoo the meaningful things to me whether they like it or not. but. i cannot say that just yet. so I have to keep my tattoos hidden. a wrist or a palm tattoo would be way too obvious. (I don't live with my parents, but they stop by my work on a daily basis, I work for their best friend.) In later years I hope to have it tattooed somewhere. for now, I want to finish my back piece.

I'll add you back!
Me too! :D After I had my shoudler piece my parents chucked up such a fuss (mom cried, dad cried..etc) so I started hiding them. When I visit I have all my bangles on all the time, either that or arm warmers! I keep my socks on and wear high-necked tops. Its a bit of a mission but it saves the tears! They have it hard enough with all my pirecings, bless them.
Re: random question! and hello!jazztasticJanuary 13 2006, 15:55:10 UTC
haha! I had my tongue pierced and when I came home for a week my mom saw it and they sent me back from where I came from in under 2 hours! It was a record time, haha. I would much rather save the tears and the screaming as well. I live in florida though so larm warmers, and high necked tops just don't go over too well! I wear my hoodie around my mom all the time and she always says, "what are you hot? you live in florida. you always have that stupid rastas hoodie on." haaa. i wear flip flops or no shoes everyday, so when I wear socks my mom asks questions. they're paranoid!

Heh, guess I'm lucky in a way then, its colder than fuck here! My mother doesn't understand my point that I would much rather regret doing something, then NOT doing something, you know?
She actually saw my ankle last year and I tried to convince her it was pen. She got down on her knees and was scrubbing it for a full 10 minutes before I said, "mom, its a tattoo I have had for four years..." After that there wasn't much she could say. She hasn't mentioned it since and I have been more careful covering it up. Bless her selective memory! ;)

someday when I have kids they will be glad then that I have a bad memory too! haha! I've had my dove for almost a year now... I know my mom is going to be even more upset once she finds out how much time has passed.... but what can you do....
haha, scrubbing for 10 minutes?! My mom would have just sawed my ankle off after a minute and a half!!!
