I think the stuff that annoys you most isn't the stuff that embodies everything you hate and detest but the stuff that's just a few key elements away from being really likable.

Adric from Doctor Who; the show had a lot of geeks in the audience (who am I kidding? EVERYBODY who watched the old Doctor Who was a complete geek) and having a geeky teenage boy traveling with the Doctor could have resulted in a very popular character. He was little different from all the others and he had extra viewer identification appeal. But he was badly scripted and played by someone very inexperienced. Out of a long list of badly scripted and badly cast characters, he's the most unpopular.

I actually liked Simone from Heroes in the first episode, but everything she did from there onwards involved either doubting Isaac and Peter or being unable to choose between them. I was really happy when she died. Really, really happy.

My least favorite article in my history class reader was actually on a topic I really could have liked; the character of George Washington.

The anime series Fate/Stay Night involves a contest/war game spanning the ages, which is great. The first two episodes intrigued me. Then in the next two, the protagonist who'd spent the first two talking about how much he wanted to do something important with his life complained nonstop about being dragged into this contest. At the end, he allowed himself to be pressured into joining anyway. Definitely not bothering to watch the rest of it.
