This whole Sara thing on Prison Break was just one big giant mess.
I knew it was going to happen. I knew it was her head in the box because of all the spoilers and talk about Sarah Wayne Callies wasn't coming back. But that knowledge did nothing to quell the horrible feelings that came after it all came to fruitition.
I'm going back and forth, being angry one moment, and sad and depressed the next.
I'm angry because of the writers. It was their intention to kill off Sara, despite all the reassurances back in the beginning of 2007 when it was announced that SWC was pregnant that they weren't going to kill her off. From the interview with Matt Olmstead, he made it sound like that they couldn't come up with anything else to motivate Michael. There are like what, 8-10 writers working on Prison Break yet not one of them could come up with another reason to motivate Michael? Tsk, tsk, writers!
And then Nick Santora goes on about how the way that Sara went out on the show was respectful and that the whole head in the box idea is 'kickass!' It is not! It's very disrespectful, and not to just Sara the character. It's disrespectful to the Sara fans and the Michael/Sara fans who have invested two years of their lives to this only to have nothing to come out of it.
It is not 'kickass!' because Sara Tancredi deserved better. She deserved better than being decapitated and then having her head being stuffed in a box put next to the garbage! The garbage, for goodness sakes! That's like saying that the character was garbage! And she's was not! I would rather that she go down in a hail of bullets if she had to die rather than her being decapitated and stuck in the garbage! And it doesn't help that apparently the idea was used in a movie before.
And it doesn't end there! Apparently, they are bringing on a new love interest for Michael. WTF? Way to basically shit on the Michael/Sara fans, writers! Have you no respect for the relationship and the character at all?
The part that makes me sad is that the show lost many things as a result of all this.
It lost a great character. Sara Tancredi was, in my opinion, the most awesome female character ever. She was intelligent, beautiful, strong, and feisty. She had her flaws and she made mistakes, but she learned from them and changed for the better. Sara Tancredi was a fantastic character. And Sarah Wayne Callies portrayed her beautifully and wonderfully.
It lost a wonderful love story. The relationship between Michael and Sara was amazing and powerful and it touched my heart, and Wentworth Miller and Sarah Wayne Callies did absolutely wonderful together as these two characters.
But most of all, the show has lost hope. By killing off Sara, not only have the writers/producers pissed off many fans, therefore making people quit watching the show, therefore making cancellation loom in the near future, they also gotten rid of any sort of hope for a happy ending for Michael Scofield. This man's whole life has been one tragedy after another. He's lost and sacrifice so much, and he is inherently a good person. He deserves to have some hope of a bright future. To me, Sara represented a good portion of that bright future and with her gone, well, it's not so bright. It's not bright at all.
Despite all this, I'm going to keep watching. As much as it pains me to, I'm going to keep watching. I want to see how the story will go on and I want to see how the writers will deal with the aftermath of all this. And if the whole thing comes back and bites them in the ass, I will place them in front of the mirror, point and say, "This is the reason why your show went down hill. None of you could come up with a better storyline for Sara Tancredi's character that would fit with the Network and SWC preferences. You all took the easy way out by killing her off and in the most horrible way possible, direspecting your fans in the process. You have only yourself to blame."
And with that, I wish Sarah Wayne Callies the best of everything with her family and her career. I will keep up with her work just because of her wonderful job as Sara Tancredi.
I commend Wentworth Miller for being gentlemanly and respectful in the Kristin interview about the whole situation.
Rest in peace Sara Tancredi. You were and will always be the best character ever for me, in my eyes and in my heart. I will keep you alive there and in fanfiction.
