So, final assesment is that the video camera used at AUSAMCON, recently donated to us, has a dead firewire/ilink port. Records great, plays back fine, but no way to get data from device to PC, so major functionality problem. Now I need to find a workaround that doesn't involve buying another cam, as that defeats the purpose of not spending large amounts of money.
Also, turns out 2 of the DV tapes in the used stack were not actually. So, only 7 tapes to go through, but that means we also could have had more footage of worthwhile stuff like open karaoke. I'm going with being happy we have any video at all, as last year the only record was from our attendees thrown on youtube.
