Today I surveyed the cars that I have some intention of restoring. It's a bit of a laundry list.
In order of apperance:
- 1977 Jaguar XJ12L
- 1972 Jaguar XJ6
- 1978 Jaguar XJ6L
- 1957 Hillman Minx Estate Wagon (Export, Special Order)
The pictures are behind the cut. I haven't made thumbnails, so... this will be rather bandwidth intensive.

On with the show... )
The '72 has always needed an engine rebuild from the start. We tried putting in penetrating oil and it never got through. The breaker bar did jack for that as well.
I'm thinking I'm just going to do the '72 first. The engine and transmission are ready to be hoisted out, but I just needed a second person to work with.
After that, I've got two different blocks to choose from, one with the high compression pistons and the other with the regular compression.
I'm also considering replacing the Borg Warner Model 8 3-speed transmission, with a conversion kit, to a GM 4-speed with overdrive. I'd like to get some fuel economy and less transmission hassle out of her. I can't judge until I drive her, I think.
I'm also thinking of pulling the front suspension giving the subframe a cleaning and repaint.
The '78 has gotten messy too, but not remotely as bad. It's been exposed to the elements somewhere between 5-10 years and mice took up residence. I'm going to probably clean the block up and throw the same penetrative oil in for it and see what that does.
I think the 78 is going to get the spot the '72 had after I finish repairs.
