Dreaming of the dead.

Last night I dreamed of an all-female family reunion on what seemed to be a Southern plantation. I didn't recognize any of the women at first, but I think I sensed my paternal grandmother was around somewhere. It seemed like most of them would have been from my father's side and I joked that we all must be related somewhere down the line since most of us had the same last name. They laughed, and some of the people seemed to be from current time. Everyone appeared to be either cooking or getting food together. There was one familiar woman who was sitting in a rocking chair on a porch near the front of the house. She turned to look at me and I asked her name. She told me her first name and that's when I realized who she was. I told her her last name and she seemed startled that I knew it. I said, "You're my great-grandmother," (from my maternal side) which seemed to startle her even more. I'd only seen her from a picture a few times, but it was her. I woke up shortly after that and I have no idea why my interaction with her would be so strange. I really would have liked to have met my maternal grandmother since she also died before I was born.

I also had a dream about being engaged to an English sailor and we were walking along this wooden boardwalk near water. I was wearing a silver ring with labradorite chips that I showed to an older couple who were sitting by and interested in seeing it. As we walked along, I saw lots of yellow baby geese running along the boardwalk and I tried to take a picture of them with my phone, but they were moving too fast. There was one brown baby goose among them whose name was Horace. Or possibly Horus. I'm not sure how it was spelled or how I knew it was his name, but he was the goofiest, sweetest one of the bunch and I liked him right away. People around me kept insisting he was a duck, and I kept correcting them that he was a goose - he was too big to be a duckling.

I've been having lots of weird, symbolic dreams lately, but these were some of the nicest and strangest.
