Nina called, audibly crying, and said Inspector had ran into the street and was hit by a car. She was driving him to the animal hospital at that moment, but she said he looked really bad. While I was on the phone with her, Jon got home from work. Poor guy was greeted by me flying out the front door crying saying Inspector was hit by a car and he needs to take me to the animal hospital right now. We jumped in the car and go there so fast we actually arrived before Nina and Inspector.
I ran to the car to see him, and he didn't look good. There was a lot of blood on the blanket she had laid him on, and the pupils of his eyes were two different sizes. He had blood on his face, and one side of him looked like it was already very dark and bruised. He tried to get up when he saw me, which was completely overwhelming that even in such a state he recognized me and was happy to see me. I nudged him back down and kissed and stroked his head in all his favorite spots. Nina had gone to get the technicians and they brought him inside for us and we waited.
The wait was really long. They brought us into one of the exam rooms, and again we waited some more. Finally the doctor came in, looked me in the eye, and said "It could be much worse." He explained that it appeared all that had happened was some pretty bad lacerations to his front left paw and a severe concussion. After further talk, we approved them doing some x-rays to make sure there wasn't any internal damage or bleeding. Again more waiting. Once the x-rays were done, we actually got to see them, and he was literally fine. Not a single broken bone in his body, not even a broken or dislodged tooth. The doctor said he was a very lucky dog.
He is staying there overnight because they want to make sure there isn't any possibility of bruising in the lungs, or swelling of the brain. As stated before, his concussion is pretty severe. We got to see him before we left, and he did respond to me, which is good.
I'm a fucking wreck right now. I just feel so lost, and confused, and completely defeated. You win life, you win.
