Disturbing reviews . . .

I don't know about everyone else on my f-list or those who have me on their f-list but I have received some rather disturbing reviews on some of my stories.

First I must say, they're not stalker-type reviews. None of the "I'll hunt you down if you don't update soon" type reviews but more like . . . they were a bit inappropriate for the stories reviewed.

Mind you, it was the same reviewer for both stories . . . but what this reviewer has said about these stories, I find a bit disturbing.

For each story, the reader has commented on how cute the story is and that he/she would like for me to update soon. That in and of itself is not disturbing. It's the stories that these reviews were left on that makes them disturbing.

The first story such a review came up on was The Dark Side of the Sun. If you've read the story, you know that, as a child, Inuyasha gets the shit beat out of him. It's at the very beginning of chapter two. And I've done three updates since returning to ff.net, which puts TDSotS at "Chapter" Seven (prologue, chapters 1-3, and intermissions 1-3). There is nothing cute about this story. Yes, Inuyasha may appear to be adorable and yes, his interactions with those around him after he moves into his father's home is somewhat adorable but the story, as a whole, is not cute. I don't see how anyone could call a story that contains an abusive parent can be called cute. It's disturbing to say the least.

This wasn't the only story this person left a review like that on. The other story this person reviewed was When Lights Go Down . . . where I have it set in modern times and Inuyasha is born addicted to drugs like cocaine and LSD. Again, not something that is cute because of the seriousness of the story itself. Drug-babies go through hell. They are born with birth defects. While Inuyasha in this story may be a loving and affectionate child, he still has some very serious health issues because of what's happened in the story-line and what's going to happen in that story will not be cute.

These are very serious issues that I've been writing about. While part of my purpose with them is to entertain and play with some "What ifs", they really are not meant to be "cute." They are meant to tug on your heart and make you feel sad for what the individual is going through and to, hopefully, cheer on the person facing these obstacles. They may have some funny or cute moments but overall they are not meant to be cute. They are not funny and that is not my purpose when I write them.

I don't know if anyone agrees with me on this or not (I know the Butterfly does only because I brought the reviews up to her over messenger) but I find these reviews to be disturbing. Anyone who wishes to disagree with me may do so by clicking on the "Post Comment" button, by emailing me, or sending me an IM (if you send an IM, state which forum you're from and why you're IMing me. I'm paranoid about strange people contacting me for no reason).

And that is all I have to say.
