Another delicious sporking! Your Lucy Liu gifs are giving me life. When the fic gets too much, I like to imagine how classy O-Ren-Ishi would look taking down Juliasue. She'd probably rip out her entrails without displacing one single perfect strand of hair <3
Something that really disturbs me about the characters in Juliaverse is how Slave is totally unable to write people who care about each other. The only way ANYONE displays any affection in this story is by getting angry and violent towards 'enemies' (frequently innocents, like the medical personnel). Seriously, there's not a single example where this isn't the case. Whenever she wants to demonstrate that someone cares for Julia, she shows them going on homicidal rampages against the people who have 'wronged' her. When she wants to demonstrate how much Julia loves Sephiroth in SH, she can only do it by tearing down Laura. This is what makes the relationships so inherently unhealthy; they're not based on love, they're based on one-upmanship.
It's painfully clear that the reason she writes relationships this way is because she lives this way herself. Whenever she's talked about her astral relationship with Sephiroth, the only way she's ever presented him showing love for her is by getting angry, jealous and violent. Like, he reacts with violent jealousy when a male friend hugs me all the time - wow, he must really care! Look how he threatens spiritual violence and retribution on the ED people - he must love me so much! Look at how he imposes rules on how I should speak and act in my waking life - he's really worried about me!
I'd say I was seriously worried about her falling into an abusive relationship, because the red flags here are shooting up miles high. But I guess one of the few upsides to having an imaginary husband means that you can't be abused by a real one. Every cloud...?
Slave seems to be content with the relationship, even though she doesn't seem to realize that, from the details that she disclosed to the world, it is dysfunctional and codependent. I don't feel comfortable discussing this kind of stuff in-depth in public, so if you want to talk more you can message me at the_sporker @yahoo.com - I'd love to compare notes.
As a writer, she unintentionally portrays relationships as either shallow and loveless or bland and boring. Her characters have no chemistry, they do no exchange witty remarks, have zero sense of humor, no hobbies... her ideal relationship, portrayed best during peaceful moments in both Shinra High and Shinra SOLDIER is boring as hell, dry and cliche(at best).
There's a difference between including sex and including sex-scenes, though. Other than the Jenova-rape, these two have never shown any signs of being sexually active with (or even attracted to) each other. They were in separate rooms for five years before they got married. We skipped the honeymoon completely. Sephiroth never pulls her away from her desk with a sly grin, telling her the paperwork can wait. Hell, I'm not sure we've ever seen more than a chaste kiss between the two.
