UW gem and mineral show

I tried to upload these photos to LJ, but LJ is being a bitch again so they're on Photobucket instead. Way to keep me buying a paid account, LJ; you keep screwing up the few things I value and now I won't give you money when my account expires in two months (I'll miss my tons of icons, though).

Anyway, on Saturday I went to UW's annual gem and mineral show. Stan went home to his family instead, so he did not go with me and thus there will be no raptor photo this year :P Because he didn't go I had to find my own way to the university, typically by bike. Unfortunately it was 6 Celsius, windy, and raining miserably, so it was a hell of a trip. Almost nobody was outside while I was biking, not even many cars on the road. And when I worked at our mineral club's table for two hours, it was right by the front door which was cold and drafty and our posters kept blowing off the wall. I wore my winter coat indoors for two hours.

In addition to working at the club table, I looked at a lot of rocks and bought a few things. Hopefully they made it home intact.

A large amethyst thing (a slab made out of a geode).

Here is a big drill.

'Dynamite' box. You push down the plunger and it makes a loud explosion noise, which must be very tiresome for the people who have offices nearby.

Old mining car.

Here's a six-second video of a carved obsidian globe spinning. Try to restrain your excitement.

(You know I couldn't resist filming something spinning. But I can stop anytime I want, man, I don't have a problem.)

And on an unrelated note, SPACE (the Canadian equivalent of the SciFi channel) did a piece on my comic shop for some reason. Here it is. Sadly, Sadie the giant dog is not in the clip even though she's one of my favourite things about the store. She always wags her tail when she sees me :3
