Went to Toronto on Saturday for the "Fan Appreciation" event, a free-admission convention put on by the organizers who host Fan Expo in August. It wasn't bad for a free show, with a few sci-fi guests (Richard Hatch and Dominic Keating...I had a crush on the latter when Enterprise was on TV, I'm not ashamed to admit) and a bunch of comics artists. The guy who played Cameron in Ferris Bueller's Day Off was there, and it freaked the hell out of me to see how old he looks now. Pretty sure I haven't seen him since that movie (or recognized someone as him, at least), so he went from a young man to a middle-aged dude in what feels like the blink of an eye. Since I actually watched that movie in the theatre when it came out, I officially feel old now.
As I said the other day, we couldn't spend much and couldn't stay all weekend due to Pepper's ill health, but had a pretty good time. I got one sketch by Marcus To, and a few action figures. Ran out of money really early on, and after hanging around and staring at people for a bit, we decided to cut out early because we didn't have money left anyway.
I did walk up to Ethan Van Sciver while he was drawing, showed him the photo of Stan's Orange Lantern jack-o-lantern (which he said was cool), and then walked away because I didn't have anything else interesting to say. I don't know if that seems weird. He designed the Orange Lantern symbol, so I thought he'd like it. I forgot he was going to be at the con, or I would have brought an issue of Flash: Rebirth for him to sign...even though I got him to sign the first issue last year.
Here's my Boomerang sketch by Marcus To! Marcus is really nice and personable. I got him to draw Digger because he did really nice renditions of him in the Red Robin series, and also I didn't have any Digger sketches in my collection yet.
I was hoping to get the Brightest Day Boomerang Heroclix figure from this one Heroclix dealer that I know, but turns out he wasn't selling the BD set as singles. I did get the new Pyro, Mystique and Blob 'clix, though. I was also hoping to get the Eaglemoss Pyro figurine, and nobody had it. Plus I hoped that someone would have the Happy Meal Captain Cold figure, but nobody had that either. So, bummer. But I got a couple of Professor Zoom figures for cheaper than usual.
On the way to the car, we passed by the dressing room trailers, makeup trailer, and bathroom trailer for the TV show "Flashpoint". Kind of funny in light of the upcoming DC storyline.
Also, there were tons of people in Leafs jerseys and Habs jerseys heading towards the ACC (I'll never forgive the closing Maple Leaf Gardens). This obviously signified a match between the two fierce rivals which I would have liked to have attended...but the Leafs lost in the end as usual.
