(I would warn for lolita-ness were there any, don't get scared.)
The first time Jude Law was invited to the house, Indio was a little apprehensive. It was for a barbeque Susan was throwing for the whole company, but the only person Indio cared about was Jude. He respected the man because he liked his movies and his dad had told him tons of stories from the set. Whenever Dad came home in good moods bursting with stories, Indio knew that real chemistry was involved.
It wasn’t just apprehension at the respect, but also because Indio was more than a little attracted to him, which he knew his dad could see a mile away. And his dad was one of those dads who love to embarrass the hell out of their children. So when Jude stepped through the door and Robert introduced the two of them, Indio was halfway through the firm handshake when the bomb dropped.
“Jude, you know my son, Indio. He’s got the biggest crush on you, man… I swear I thought I insulated his bedroom walls.”
The blood immediately rose on Indio’s cheeks, but if he didn’t know how to deal with his dad, he wasn’t his son.
“Don’t worry; Dad’s got this thing for setting up his co-stars with me. Gwyneth almost took him up on it, but I understand if you don’t want to.” Indio’s smirk was so well played that he could sense his dad’s pride at his acting skills. Jude, who had also blushed, looked a lot more relaxed and even laughed.
The barbeque went pretty smoothly after that. Indio spent most of his time listening to the adults reminisce and drink beer, adding his opinion when Jude asked for it. He was mostly content just to be there and watch Jude talk, watch Jude’s neck as he drank, and watch Jude’s fingers wrap around the wet beer bottle. When the subject finally came around to his own prowess as a musician Indio took the humble route that he had been planning the whole time.
“I mean, I could, but I promise it sounds a ton better with my band backing me.”
“Nah! Go get yer guitar, I’d love to hear you.”
Indio smiled all the way back to his room to pick up his guitar. He schooled his expression as he came outside with the instrument in hand and took a moment to tune it by ear.
“I can take requests if you want. Got a favorite song?”
Jude’s face colored again as he laughed, which made Indio have to try very hard to control how that made his heart race. In the end, he ended up playing a part of a new song his band had just recorded to general applause because he was too much of a wimp to play something meaningful. He kept his guitar outside with him, though and subconsciously plucked at chords while watching the adults again.
Not long after the conversation had changed, Indio was messing with the guitar and felt Jude’s eyes on him. He felt himself starting to blush a little, then tried to hide his nervousness as Jude detached from the others to grab two beers and sit next to him. After a quick paranoid look around at the others to make sure no one noticed this new development, his eyes settled on the kind blue ones which now happened to be a ton closer than they were a minute ago. Indio realized the party was going on without the two of them and he now was sitting in a private conversation with the man of his desire.
“Hey, mind if I join you over here?”
“Nah… enjoying yourself? Dad’s really good at grilling.”
Jude’s smile made Indio’s heart skip a beat. “Yeah, s’good. Think yer dad would mind if I gave you a beer? I can only guess how crap it is being the only underager at the party.”
“You think I’m gonna turn down a beer?”
Jude chuckled again and cracked open the beer, then handed it over. Indio smiled and took it, taking a sip without reaction, which made Jude laugh. “Not foreign to alcohol I see.”
“I live in Hollywood, for fuck’s sake.”
“Yeah, that’s kinda why my kids stay in England.”
“Oh yeah, I forgot you have kids.”
“Mmhmm. One of whom is only three years younger than you, you know.”
Indio had a small inkling as to where this conversation was going now and tried again to control his blush by taking another swig from his beer.
“You’re not too shabby as an actor, you know. You delivered that line beautifully earlier. It was very convincing.”
Indio felt his heart sink, even at the praise. “Thanks.”
“You’re a very handsome kid, Indio. Hell, how could you not be? You’ll find someone that’ll give you what you’re looking for sooner or later.”
“Uhhuh.”
“Aw, c’mon,” Jude smiled and put his hand on Indio’s shoulder. “If you keep looking like that after I give you a beer and a pep talk, I’ll call Rob back over here and tell him you proposed to me.”
Indio couldn’t help but snort into laughter at that and Jude patted his shoulder. “Good. Now, I’d love to hear more about this band of yours.”
At the end of the night, Indio was lounging on his bed playing God of War II in preparation for passing out when his dad knocked on his door and came into his room.
“No tears, that’s good. I really didn’t want to go beat down Judesie for breaking your young heart.”
Indio flicked a glare to his dad before pausing his game and looking up at him.
“He’s pretty cool for being an old guy.”
“Old guy, huh? I assume you say that in reference to the age difference between the two of us. No, I get it. That’s fine; you’re just grounded for that beer I saw you illegally drink.”
Indio smiled at his father. “Goodnight Dad.”
“Goodnight kiddo.” Robert exited the room, feigned closing the door and looked at his son once more as he unpaused and went back to his game. “I’m not kidding--grounded.”
“Get out, Dad. Love you.”
