Today has been quite good. I worked my arse off, and got a lot done.
My sister will be home in a little over a week, and I have to get the room ready for another person. The closet has been a mess since I moved in, and I know there is a lot in there that can be gotten rid of. So my goal for the day was to get a solid start on cleaning that out. I actually got it pretty much done. It was a bit exhausting, but OMG is there a difference. There are a couple shelves free now, the floor is pretty much clear, one can actually walk in there now. It's great
I got rid of a bunch of stuff: recycled a bunch of papers I've been holding on to that i didn't need to, threw a bunch of things in to tagsales, and a sizeable bag of garbage. Reordered things so they fit better.
The best part of this endevor, besides having a usable closet? I found the Pants of Awesome.
Yes.
The Pants of Awesome have indeed been found after being missing for 2.5 years, the Pants of Awesome are back.
Meanwhile, as I was cleaning, I worked on backing up my computer. My second major project of the day was upgrading to Win 7. I was terrified, and fully prepared to go tomorrow with laptop and external harddrives with backups to the computer tamers to fix whatever I did to it. It wanted me to uninstall and reinstall afterwards a few programs, like Itunes (which was a hassle getting installed on this new laptop in the first place, and I really, really did not want to unauthorize my computer. You only have so many authorizations!) So I didn't uninstall it or the similar programs, figured I'd give it a try and hope. (And be prepared to go to the computer tamers to fix whatever mess I created).
Install took about 2 hours, and had no problems. all of my major programs are in working order. The task bar looks a bit different, and the library thing will likely take a little while for me to get used to, but over all it seems like everything is in proper working order and running fine. It'll take a few days just to make certain every program works as it should, but it's looking like this was a triumph. I'm making a note here: Huge Success. It's hard to overstate my satisfaction.
...Ok, I'll stop that now.
Anyway, speaking of Huge. Success. GREAT news. Heroes of Might and Magic 4, which wouldn't play on Windows Vista DOES work on Win 7. I love Win 7 already. My Pirates game also works, as does my solitaire game. The important things.
I hope some of the issues I was having with my computer was the evil of Vista and will no longer be an issue. We'll see how things go. Still, things seem to be working the way I want thus far, and I can play Heroes 4 again. I'm pretty damn happy.
On a related to the cleaning out my closet note, I came across the pile of notebooks and papers of some of my old stories. The middleschool/highschool era stories, before I really got into typing things up. They are old. They aren't very good. There really isn't a lot to even try salvaging from them. Should I just throw them out? Hold on to them? What do people think?
