Again, this shall have to suffice for last night's entry....
Last night, D. was excitedly talking to me and B. about how much he was looking forward to returning to his final year of college. It is sad to me that many do not see school as an exciting thing. (I see this as a problem not usually of the students but often of the system and/or teachers. However, as I've indicated before, I do think many people are intellectually lazy. (I can be intellectually lazy myself -- as M. is so fond of reminding me.)) But D. impressed me with his enthusiasm.
I am not just talking about science. I do not think that science is the only valid field. Certainly not! There are countless things under our canopy of sky of which to learn.
D. was saying how thankful he was to live in such a country where one could dedicate so much of his or her life to the pursuit of knowledge. How thankful I am that I do not have to work hard in a field, wearing out my physical body to survive, while my mental self rots away for lack of exercise!
But as in many cases where one has excess, we can tend to be unthankful of this. We have so much food here in the States that little kids get mad if they have to eat their vegetables and think nothing of it if they throw away what would make a meal for 4 such children in another place. Likewise, with learning. "I don't want to do my homework; I want to play Doom CCCLXII on my PS9."
