Seasonal Affective Disorder has never been a problem of mine. The number of hours of daylight has no effect on my personality, as far as I can tell.
But regardless of the time of year, if the sun is not shining when I wake up -- whether due to clouds or waking up too early or taking a nap too late into the afternoon -- I feel physically terrible and emotionally melancholy. I never want to do anything at all.
I think this is the case -- to some extent -- for most people, though for me this is only an issue when I wake up. If I am awake until the sun sets, I am fine. In fact, I am a night owl and would enjoy staying up all night, if sleep were hypothetically not a requirement. Likewise, if the day starts out sunny and then becomes rainy, I feel nothing different.
Have any of you studiers of psychology heard of something like this? Is there a term for it? Or am I alone?
