On Makeup

From my Dave Barry daily calendar:Women produce a hormone that compels them to rearrange furniture, and another one that causes them to believe they can improve their appearance by using a tiny pencil to draw dark lines around their eyeballs.
I used to not understand why women wear makeup. In my and Dave Barry's opinion -- and I think the opinion of many if not most men -- women look no better with makeup. Why the heck would women wear makeup if men don't even think it makes them look better? Are they trying to attract each other instead?

My theory is that women feel better about themselves if they can hide what they perceive to be their imperfections. And this boosted self-confidence is what men may find attractive.

What I still do not understand, however, is why, with knowledge that many men would rather they didn't wear makeup but rather admire the self-confidence, they still seem to require the makeup for this self-confidence. Why not just be self-confident and throw out the makeup and save costs and preparation time?

Anyhow, another poll:Poll Makeup
