On Cigarette Litter

Nov 07, 2006 17:19

I do not smoke, but I have no problems if other people want to. I think that smoking should be prohibited in public places, because it is harmful to other people, but if an individual wants to smoke, let him or her.

But would those of you who smoke please be so kind as to not litter the ground with your cigarette butts?

The new Barnes and Noble / dormitory Hopkins just opened last month already has a beautiful sidewalk... littered with hundreds of cigarette butts -- this despite the clear presence of ash trays atop the sidewalk trashcans. Does it really take that much effort to walk the 15 feet to the nearest ash tray to properly dispose of your used cigarette?

It is not just here. Smokers everywhere seem to think that it is entirely ok to drop their butt on the ground and grind the ash into the pavement or grass or dirt with their feet. It's no wonder people call smoking a dirty habit.
