I have found a way in which I would consider becoming a vegetarian.
Last year, I posted an entry regarding processed food.
[1] (Actually, I've written a lot about food, looking back, which is odd, considering as I do not care for food all that much
[2] and as conversations on food may be crossing a line into small talk. *gasp*)
Anyhow, I love animals. I don't think the idea of killing them is cool. I would never go hunting for sport. I feel it is rather barbaric and disturbing.
Yet I also see the need for hunting, and I respect those who hunt for their food. I understand the need for farming and the slaughter of animals for our food. Some claim that we do not need to eat animals to be healthy. Perhaps not, but we do need protein -- and some of us need lots of it. Not all of us have the luxury of having a special diet of vegetables to ensure that we don't get sick from lack of protein.
And then there is taste. If you believe in a Designer, you might think that (at least perhaps) meat tastes good because we were designed to eat it. If you do not believe in a Designer, you might consdier that taste would have developed such over time because meat is necessary for survival. I tend to find that I crave ice cream most (I rarely ever turn down ice cream, but I'm talking about cravings....) when my body is lacking protein (as in after a hard lifting work out). I think women may crave "random" foods during their pregancies also for a reason.
So I found this:
yet another article Scientists are trying to grow meat cells on plates. So, soon, it may be possible to eat real cow muscle that never ever existed on any living cow. You have all the nutrients of cow muscle with no slaughtered cows; all the protein of cow muscle with no tendons, bones, or blood. True, some of you may like that blood. Others of us prefer the meat to be ground up anyhow, so this is ideal.
So would you eat it or not?
