I'm gonna rant about about why movie critics are all dumb.
So, the best movie I have seen in a VERY long time is Dreamgirls, and some reviews of the movie are really bugging me, because the reviewers obviously know nothing.
Point One - I came across a comment that when the characters start singing in the middle of dramatic moments, it makes no sense and the words just sound like speech jazzed up with music. Obviously, this just blatantly shows that the reviewer knows absolutely nothing about the musical. Most of the musical is recitative, which are lines delivered musically rather than spoken. So there ya go, that explains why. No to mention when its done, they are lead ins to other songs.
Point Two - "How could a singer like Effie not find other work singing? This was never explained to us." Well you obviously missed the part where she said she pretty much drank away $500,000 in two years, which is a pretty good explanation to me. Not to mention she spiraled into depression and could never get a break with a person like Curtis in the business hating her.
Point Three - "CC is upset over the white band taking his music, but wouldn't he get royalties from no matter who sings it?" *Laughs incredibly loud at the audacity of that statement* Obviously someone has no idea about anything concerning race rights in the 1960's. CC wouldn't see a dime because it was white people who stole his music, and no one would care.
...and this was one review...and it was from a christian movie reviewing site...which probably would explain all of these statements that show obvious lack of intelligence.
ugh
