The past 3 days I have had a DUI course up in Countryside and it's been really awesome. The people, the topics, everything was great!
Tuesday day 1- I woke up and got ready. I knew it was about 30+ mins away but never having been there before I wanted to give myself plenty of time. I had picked out a professional looking outfit the night before and after a brief 5 mins or so of panic running between my house and grams looking for my house keys I was on my way at like 7:50. The drive was an easy one 87th, LaGrange Rd, Joliet like 2 blocks. I made it at exactly 8:30 when check in was beginning.
I didn't expect to know anybody but was pleasantly surprised to see two of my old classmates from MVCC. Toni and Marque were both there so I had folks to talk to until I was more relaxed and came out of my shell. It's always a bit easier for me to be social with others if I have someone I know there as well to start me off. From there I very quickly got to know the women next to me Kim and we talked a decent amount.
Not knowing anything about DUI cases my eyes were really opened during all of these days. We had a guy from DASA, an IL state trooper come on Wed, and some people from the Secretary of State come on today to speak to us. I had no idea that a DUI and loosing ones license were two different things. The Secretary of State is who is involved in getting your license back not to courts.
This morning I woke up and there was a HUGE storm going on. I was terrified to drive out there but knew I had to so I sucked it up and took it slow. To my surprise it didn't take THAT much longer than before even when I was driving so slow because the roads weren't busy. It was still scarry shit though and I was glad the rain stopped by the time it was time to go home.
Before I went home I did stop at this Ford dealership on the corner of Joliet and La Grange for a $15.95 oil change that included tire rotation, car wash and muli point inspection. With tax I got all that for UNDER $20!!
I can't believe the class is over though. The past 3 days have seemed like an out of body experience for me because it was so UNLIKE my own life. Especially driving home yesterday afternoon after not being home in a day and a half I just felt so different. Even though I often felt so "immature" compared to everyone else because I wasn't in the field (a few others weren't either) overall I still felt more like an adult that I do most times. It felt really really good. I got a few good tips on places to look for jobs so I am going to get on that this next week.
