wintery

So much has been going on the past few weeks and I've been away from Cyberlandia for a while. This is rushed, just the basics:

Birthday celebration was a blast. Went to El Farol and danced to JJ's band for a while. I was up front, by the stage, which also happened to be be near the front door. I saw a black SUV pull up, and a man gets out, the whole while I'm thinking, "He looks really, really familiar." Shrug, figure it's someone I've probably danced with before, though he didn't really look like the salsa dancing type. Familiar Looking Man walks in, walks right past me. I look at JJ, who is drumming away and mouth, "That was Russell Crowe!" He nods, we shrug, he keeps playing, I keep dancing.

I stayed and danced for a while, then eventually Malika and I decided it was time to head to Willee's to catch Nosotros before the night was over. I walked in, delighted to see so many dancers out the night before Thanksgiving, and a woman comes up behind me and says, "Excuse me, can I dance with you?"

I turn around.  It was my mom.

I, of course, immediately start to cry and hug her and everyone around me was looking at me like I was insane, but I didn't care. I knew my parents were coming for Thanksgiving, but they told me they weren't getting in until Thursday afternoon. Not only did they want to surprise me for my birthday, but they had never seen me dance before, and knowing I've been doing this every week for nearly three years, wanted to see what it was all about.

The next day, we drove up to Chimayo, went to El Santuario, and then up to Favorite Boy's house for dinner. What a night, and what a group... my parents had never been at a dinner table where two languages were interchanged with such ease, but they enjoyed themselves.  I showed them the horses and donkeys and cats and geese and ducks and burros and all the other critters on the ranch; the art studio; my favorite stud horse, named Banderas after Antonio (because he's just that good looking). Boy's mom gave me a beautiful turquoise necklace and matching earrings for my birthday.

Unfortunately for me, my broken tooth start hurting like crazy, so I was on painkillers and not able to eat much.  Had my appointment with the oral surgeon on Tuesday, and by some miracle, a cancellation allowed me to get in the very next morning to have my wisdom teeth removed.  Thank god for Favorite Boy -- the surgeon required that someone stays in the waiting room during the surgery, just in case they had questions. He came down that night, and we woke to snowy winterland outside.  He took me to the surgeon, stayed through the whole thing, and listened while my quirky Russian nurse, Ella, went over all the instructions on how to change the gauze and other post-op things. Then went and picked up my prescriptions and some Jell-O, took me home, made me eat and take my pills before putting me to bed.  I am so, so glad he is in my life.

But apparently, I had a ridiculously easy time with the surgery -- my cheeks barely swelled, only slightly on the right side, where one tooth grew in horizontal.  I'm still a little sore and eating mushy food, but for the most part seem to be healing well.  Tomorrow it's back to work. The break has been nice, but I'm starting to go stir-crazy.

Hope you all are well.  I've been missing my friends from far-away a lot lately.  Yeah... that means you.
