New Amsterdam Gin

Reviewed as:
Clear. Fruity candied orange peel, cream, and spice aromas. A round, supple entry leads to a fruity medium body of orange custard, spice, and delicate herbal juniper. Finishes with a fruit, wet stone, cream, and white pepper fade with a hint of lemon verbena. A decidedly untraditional, yet charming gin that takes a dainty stroll down a fruity path.
This place, tastings.com, gave this an 88.  Supposedly a pretty good rating.

I agree more with Drinkhacker.com in stating

OK, enough tomfoolery. New Amsterdam has the juniper nose of Tanqueray, but one sip is something entirely different. Namely, the juniper is suppressed and the citrus, namely orange, is really pumped up. If it weren’t for the juniper undertone and the strong aroma of juniper, I’d have thought I was drinking an orange-infused vodka instead of gin.

Fuck, I can't agree more.  This made a downright nasty gin and tonic.  It tastes like a fucking creamsicle.  Even with the lime, it wasn't worth the time (that rhymed (that also rhymed times infinity)).  I will relegate this one to adding some ass to a pitcher of Pimms and getting girls drunk.

No self respecting gin drinker would say "ooh, this is great," or, "ooh, wow, I'm so glad I dumped all this money into it."  It's good for the price (20 bucks for a handle, with a $5 rebate that brings the price down to $15), but not worth it if you are a martini person.  Which I am.

Rich's rating:  Don't buy.  That's one level up from "sell"
