I know it's been forever. A lot has happened, actually. I don't even remember what was going on when I posted last- I haven't read my back entries in a while. I think I'll go with the bullet plan.
-I'm still in school- a senior with two years left. I'm not sad about that... I'm stoked, actually. I love lessons here, and continually growing as a musician. Brian and I will graduate at the same time then. I dropped my psychology minor and picked up a nutrition minor... I'm much more interested in nutrition.
-I've been working on the wedding plans a little- not too much during school. We have the church and reception hall booked, and we have the DJ booked. We booked Ezra- a guy from Appleton, who is AMAZING. We set the wedding party- 6 bridesmaids and 6 groomsmen. I have my dress and jewelry, and I made all the bridesmaids jewelry already, too. We're working on getting a date to have the fittings.
-My dad was taken to jail for not paying child support (finally). He had been living with my half-brother in Salt Lake City, but he was picked up and sent up here to good ol' Marathon County Jail. He served about 8 months and then was released with some deal that has benefited us in no way. :( He called me from a bar on Bridge and 6th when he was released, saying he had no one to come pick him up. I'm too damn nice, so I skipped the rest of my classes for the day to drive up to Wausau to pick him up. My brother wired me some money to buy him some clothes and a jacket and to pay for gas to drive him down to Milwaukee for his family to pick him up. I got to Wausau and he was piss-ass drunk. He threw up all over himself and the backseat of the car. It was truly revolting. I can't imagine living your whole life like that. I'm glad my mom got out with me when she did. In any event, I saw more of my dad's lifestyle than I ever wanted, and I'm glad that I'm moving on with my life.
-I'm taking ballet classes. I was never really good at ballet, anyway... but I thought I'd try it to see if I could find some parallels between dance and music. Sure enough, there are a bunch- and it's nice to start my day with ballet three days a week.
-I got a job at Starbucks- I've been working there since September. It's an awesome job- the hours are great, they fit in my crazy schedule, and I get benefits! This will be great in 8 months, when I'm married and I'm not under my mom's insurance anymore. We all know that I'm prone to illness... right. I've had more sinus infections than I can care to count.
-I have my trombone final in two weeks, along with my percussion jury. I'm not worried for either, I'm prepared. It's a weird feeling... being prepared. ha.
-Brian and I are busy with OTHER weddings this year! We have 7 to attend, and numerous to take pictures at. I've been training with the man who trained Brian, out of Appleton, so Brian and I can do weddings together on our own now. We have two on our own, and several more to do with Painting With Light (in Appleton).
-Brian and I took RCIA classes, and he had his First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation this year. He is now a full-fledged member of the Catholic community. My grandma is ecstatic.
-I dropped a pants size... so that's good.
-I've been branching out into voice and marimba. I've been singing and accompanying myself on marimba. In fact, I actually won a scholarship for next year in an audition doing just that. Sweet, huh?
-Brian and I spent spring break in Bayfield, WI, with our new good friends Chris and Kelly. Chris is from the area, so we got a chance to chill at his parents' BEAUTIFUL log home and spend some time hiking, shopping, and exploring the Lake Superior shore. It was great.
-I got a gig accompanying (on conga drums) the advanced modern dance classes. I'm working as a collaboration with a pianist- the main accompanist for the dance department. It's awesome. I've been doing an indepth study of African and Afro-Cuban rhythms and beat divisions this semester. I'm in a late-night class that meets once a week to work on ensemble music, playing traditional style. It's so cool. Hard, but cool.
