Rules/FAQ post 2009

Feb 25, 2009 09:21

Hi, and welcome to this year's lgbtfest, a fest for fanfic that focuses on the experience of being lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender. This fest is multi-fandom and open to stories about any characters you want to write as LGBT, whether they're canonically LGBT or not.

Please don't submit your prompts to this post; the prompt submission post is here.

Yes, feel free to submit prompts even if you aren't planning to write for the fest.

Can we submit a prompt for a fandom whose original author doesn't like fanfiction?

Let me check with my co-mod about how we want to handle that and get right back to you. Who's the author in question?

It's GRR Martin, the fandom is "A song of Ice and Fire". I would have to check on the exact quote where he says it. Thing is that there are people writing fanfic in the fandom (and the fandom has LOTS of potential for the fest), but there are also fans who oppose it, which is why some persons have chosen to keep their fanfic in locked entries.

I'll be back with the quote =)

I think that's fine, then. We reserve the right to say no about authors who have a notorious history of sending C&D letters and otherwise harassing fans, but otherwise we're not going to try to keep track of authors' opinions about fanfic.

Are we allowed to resubmit prompts from last year that no-one picked up that time round?

Yes, that's fine -- just submit it as if it were a new prompt. (ETA: And please reformat any prompts from last year so that the fandom, character or pairing, and prompt are separated by commas, instead of the way we did it last year.)

Crossovers: yay or nay?

Yes, you can submit crossovers as "Crossover: Fandom A/Fandom B, character or pairing, prompt."

IIRC from last year: yes, you can pick up your own prompt, but multiple stories from the same prompt are not allowed?

Yes, you can claim your own prompt. Like last year, we'll be allowing two people to claim each prompt, but encouraging people to choose a prompt that hasn't already been claimed.
