What a clever idea ~~ the Hogwarts magical quill detects essences of all kinds. I love the way you depict Alice/Alastor's inner sense of self and how perfectly the style represents his various ages (especially the pirate play and the perfectly logical idea to buy a sib /g/).

Thank you for reading it! (Moody and I would have been fast friends at five. *g*)

Ooh, this is lovely and clever. I like how it's all about gender identity while at the same time it isn't at all. That makes it feel very real.

Oh, this is lovely! And having the authority of his Hogwarts letter to help make the case is bound to help, in his future.

(Also, I can't help wondering why Atalanta Watkins got a Significant Glance between the grown-ups. XD)

Thank you. :-) (Also, I should note I wasn't really intending anything with Watkins herself - I meant the glance to be indicative of the fact that they realise their little intervention is failing.)

Oh, I love the idea that the Hogwarts quill would pick up on one's gender identification! Like the sorting hat, except that by the time you're sorted it's a bit too late because you're on all the lists under the wrong gender. I can't help being a bit cross at Mrs Mackinnon (Marlene's mum?) for giving him the book, but Alastor's decision to bury it harks back to the earlier scene about siblings & treasure. Very nice :-)

Glad you liked it. :-) (Also, I just chose the name McKinnon because it was supposed to be a big family before the war - we'll pretend she's just a distant cousin to Marlene.)
