The problem with writing long fics is that you don't post fics as often.
I wrote about 1200 words on the DS9 Tain/Mila fic this weekend, and am to the point where I can see how it's going to end up - but I've still got some distance to go. I'm guessing another 1000-1500 words at minimum.
Last night I wrote 600 words on, of all things, Seventeen Months. This is a serious yay given that I hadn't written anything on it since early September. But, again, it's not something that's likely to show up as posted anytime soon.
It occurred to me this morning that if I can get myself to a point where I'm steadily writing 500 words a day, then I'll accomplish quite a bit.
The question is whether it'll be much in the way of posting.

In other news, I think I may go to D*C this year after all. Should I?
