I've never received anything like that--and it makes me think WTF, especially because of what you point out. *raises eyebrows*

sorry for delay in replying!

Yeah! It was very odd. Not seen or heard of any other offers like that, but either someone was having a laugh or it was dodgy.

We replied with a big fat 'Whatu talkin' bout Willis?' type thing, and not heard anything back which I think says it all really.

Hmmm.. I would email back and ask a LOT of questions. Offer nothing. Just see if they'll cough up something you can actually verify. If they don't provide facts, figures, and real name & number stuff for a company, then your suspicions are confirmed. You never know, though! So I'd ask.

Sorry for taking a bit to get back to you. All in all the original email was so vague and so lacking in professionalism, no details, no names, that we took the view that it was either a gag in poor taste, or a con. No one trying to convince anyone of a legitimate link to the likes of the BBC would ever come up with something so half arsed.

And to then go on about 'updating' intrinisically Victorian situations and characters to a modern setting and expecting them to work? Pfft.

Even if they were legitimate, they sound like hacks.

So we made a few comments, and said basically No, unless there was more forthcoming.

Needless to say we've heard nothing back. I figure they were just trying it on, trying to sucker in a few teens for possible plotlines they might be able to use for nothing.

So they want what? For you to give them ideas they can use and get credit for? Are they offering you a spot on this writing team? Yeah, I'd ask a lot of questions, and keep a tight eye on "your" stuff as compared to anything they come out with publicly.

Sorry for reply delay Smoke! Been a bit mad about heres lately!

Honestly, ultimately we just gave them short shrift. I mean who in hellsname running a legitimate scriptwriting group 'working on links with the BBC' would ever come up with an introductory email so half arsed.

Maybe we were wrong and maybe they were real and we've shot ourselves in the foot somehow, but I doubt it wholeheartedly. And even if we were, their ideas sounded so horrendous for our stories...which may be lame to some, but our babies...that we wouldn't want them touching them anyway.

I mean honestly Sherlock Holmes Victoriana Romance/Mystery stories, without Holmes's unique viewpoint on things, and in the 21st Century...yeah...that'll work.
