I haven't written here in close to 8 months, so I'm not even sure if anyone will even read this, but this is more for me anyhow. I've been on LJ every day, but I just haven't been posting, for which there are many reasons, most of them not very interesting. Anyway, things are happening in my life right now that I want a more detailed record of than just the 2 sentence status updates on Facebook, so here I am. *waves*
Quick catch-up post:
I moved back to the Sarasota area from Lakeland right around Christmas time. At first I thought I'd have to live with my mom again (which wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for my sister), but just before Thanksgiving we received a significant sum of money from a second life insurance policy from my dad that no one remembered he'd had, so my mom gifted me a portion of it which allowed me to get my own place, or well, with a roommate I met on Craigslist. I got super lucky and found a really nice girl named Michaella (with an -sh- sound) who is just a few years older than I am. We get along very well and the place is great. So I am very happy about that arrangement.
My sister (Heather, not Melissa) and I had a huge falling out on Christmas Eve and we haven't spoken since. Or well, only when absolutely necessary for the sake of my mother so her head doesn't explode. But basically, I've decided that I'm much better off without her in my life. She said and did some terrible things that night over something completely ridiculous, and I'm just done with it.
I ended up going back to work at Bealls Outlet in Nokomis just after the new year. Not really what I wanted, but I had run out of money and needed a job, and I knew Harriet would be happy to have me back, which she was. Sadly, the Nokomis store closed just before Easter, so I've been transferred to a store in Sarasota, which actually worked out ok because it's closer to where I live now. And I got promoted to Supervisor around the time I transferred. It's been interesting, but not too bad. Harriet also transferred up to the Sarasota store because the manager there had quit several months before, leaving her to straddle 2 stores until the one closed. So several of my old co-workers are there and I've gotten to meet some new ones who are also very nice. I'm hoping to finally get out of retail in the near future, but I'll take what I can get right now.
And other than that, life is pretty normal. EXCEPT...On June 6th I left for my very first trip to Europe. I'm actually currently in Scotland, in the middle of a 2 1/2 week trip (which began in Germany and tomorrow I'll be heading to Ireland). These events are what brought me out of hiding on here because I really wanted to post about them in depth. The Germany part came about when I'd heard that there was going to be a Queer as Folk convention with all 9 main actors present for the very first time since the show ended in 2005. It was held in Cologne, the "gayest city in all of Germany", lol. It seemed like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and a chance to see Germany. I wasn't sure I was going to be able to go, but in the end, the circumstances were right and I made it happen. So I will be posting about my experience at the con and Germany very soon. The Scotland and Ireland part of it came about when my mom received that life insurance money. We'd always dreamed of seeing these countries, and we decided to go for it and finally make it a reality. We decided to combine it with my Germany trip (she didn't go to Germany, so I just met her in Scotland at the start of the tour) so I didn't have to make 2 trips across the Atlantic Ocean in one summer. So here we are, one week into our two week tour. It's been amazing so far and I will be making a separate post for that as well. So stay tuned!
