Well, its been an interesting couple of weeks. It started out with Brian and I going on our honeymoon on the 2nd. We headed west and ended up in the lovely Lake Tahoe for our first night. The hotel wasn't too fancy but then the majority of Tahoe hotels are like that. We had loads of fun & took wacky pics at the marina. The weather was nice and cool. After the marina, we went gambling (whoohoo!!!) where I managed to lose $2 in an hour and make a fool out of myself trying to remember the words 'white russian' and having to manage with 'kahlua and milk' to the poor cocktail waitress who came by. Anyway, the evening rounded out with Quizno's and chocolates.
The next day our destination was Eureka, CA with many a stop along the avenue of the giants and other attractions. I drove through the drive thru tree and successfully managed to keep all car parts on the car, whoo hoo! Saw a strange german shepherd there who cried more than most infants when separated from their mom's. He recovered quickly when his 'mom' showed up. Weird.... Anyway, the chimney tree was next and then the avenue of the giants. I love those trees. The forest around them is so quiet and peaceful, except for the crazy drivers that zoom through it every 2 minutes at unlawful speeds. We ran into a Liverpool football fan and his wife who kindly offered to take our pics and requested the same of us.
Eureka was our next stop. Its a weird little town on the coast with little antique stores and a lovely pier. We got a hotel, luckily since most lodging all the way up and down the coast seemed to be full up. Then we went to the boardwalk and took pictures of the boats and water. There was a band playing at one end of the pier and people were in their boats and kayaks listening to the band. Some seals also decided to join the fun. It was beautiful as the sun set over the water.
Day 3 of our adventure took us up Hwy 101 to Oregon. We drove through the beautiful redwood forest, catching sight of elk and weird towns with lots of wood sculptures. We stopped here and there to take pics on beaches and scenic spots with a required stop at a discount liquor store that had oodles of inexpensive liquor. Imagine mini bottles for $1!!! After stocking up, we made our way up the coast until we reached Coos Bay, Ore. We dropped our luggage at the hotel and went out to eat at a local diner where I had some lovely salmon and I think Brian had a burger. After that, we went back to the hotel so I could take my final exam online. Not the most fun thing to do on your honeymoon but necessary nonetheless. As compensation for that drudgery, I won a few bucks at the indian casino later that night.
Our next day's journey was a bit uncertain since we were running out of luck trying to book a hotel room further up the coast. Apparently its high tourist season on the coast, go figure... So we decided to wing it and started driving. We stopped in Newport to check out the aquarium. Wasn't all that impressed except for the shark tank. That was nice. Anyway, so on we went through seaside and astoria and over the bridge to Washington. We drove up the peninsula and stopped in Long Beach hoping to find lodging. Everything seemed booked up so while Brian went down to the beach to take pics, I called one last place and they miraculously had a few rooms. We hightailed it down there just in time to get a room on the beach. It was lovely to hear the water all evening. We went out on the beach after dinner from a local pizzeria. People were out on the beach around fires. Some people in the distance were setting off fireworks. We sat on our blanket and toasted each other with wine. It was a great time.
The next day we headed back down to seaside and east towards Portland. Brian had a wonderful time navigating the streets of Portland. I enjoyed gawking at all the hippies. A fun time was had by all. We did stop at a fruit stand and buy overpriced cherries but they were good so I don't feel too bad.
We stopped in Baker 'City' that night. If that's a city, I'm the queen of egypt. Anyhow, we visited a local store and stocked up on more booze cause you can't ever have too much. Our next stop that day, I picked up a lottery ticket (which I subsequently didn't win, oh well). I did, however, win a scratch off ticket in Idaho, but that was only for the amount I paid for it so I broke even. Oh yeah, picked up some booze in Idaho...
So from our wonderful honeymoon trip, I have 2 rocks from the beach and about 10 bottles of booze. :) Maybe we should go somewhere east for our next vacation...
