First off, in the Quotes to Live By Department:
"The only thing you need to do to pull it off is want to wear it."
('It' in this case is a jacket embellished with feathers and studs and cool stitching, but obviously extending to anything at all one might choose to wear.)
Source - Radar Online interview with Adam Lambert So, I bought the People Magazine with the 45 Sexy Guys We Love in it. And when I looked through all of it, there were two things that made my heart both glad & proud.
Two of the hot bachelors --
Adam Lambert (why yes, I *did* buy this magazine for one picture) and
Lance Bass (the photo that link goes to is really unflattering -- the one in the magazine itself is much nicer -- but the quote is fun) are out & proud, and it's no big deal.
The other thing is the straight-forward and (it reads to me) sympathetic article about Chaz Bono transitioning. For the kind of magazine People is it's not sensationalized and the writers appear to have done their research. They even paid attention to the pronoun thing. (I can't say if they got it right or not -- but a sincere effort appears to have been made.) It's celebrity news, but not 'shock and awe'.
Caveat -- I recognize my privilege as a cisgendered person, and I cannot know how this article will read to one who is not. No harm intended and I hope none incurred by me seeing this piece as a positive thing.
It's been a while since I really read a 'People' -- probably at least 8 or 10 years -- and they were never a staple of my reading diet, so I don't know if this kind of thing is actually new-new or has been improving slowly & steadily for a while, but it is a really nice change from what I remember.
Happy Pride Weekend!
