paperskyComing up in the next couple of days, Happy birthdays to

Weather
Got a really good rainstorm the other day, and discovered that the join between my house and the porches is not as good as it might be. Will have to get up on the roof at some point and figure out how to make it so that rain does not drip down the walls (outside, not inside, but still...)
I really ought to get some gardening done -- at least removing the weedy-things.
Work
The documents for the one project I am working on are done (for now) and released. Need to get the source files tidied and filed, which hopefully will happen tomorrow. Now to buckle down and figure out what I am doing for the *other* project. Still very happy to be working at a Real Job. I do wish there were a tiny bit more assurance of continuance. I really really like being able to Not Think about being employed, and just do the job.
Writing
This is where the panic part above really starts. I have about 250 words on my
hlh_shortcuts fic, after flailing and flailing on what the story was going to be (my brain kept insisting "field too large" and not narrowing down to a *story*) but I finally just sat down and started typing. It's due Wednesday. Eeeeeeeee!
Yuletide I have had the idea since I got the assignment, and I have a bunch of random paragraphs, but not *story* yet. It may well turn into something less plotty/active than I had originally planned, but I need to knuckle down with that too. Gleeeeep.
No poetry just at present, or other original stuff. Have been mumbling over Herne's Son, and got several ideas that need more thinking through that flailing about my HLH_Shortcut story got planted.
Computer
The old mac is prolly really really dead. I have hopes that the professionals at the Apple store may be able to retrieve at least some of the data from the drive (my *bookmarks file*). iTunes appears to have been Exciting, and about half the Corvus Corax mp3s are still there as well -- the ones I don't have the disks for, naturally.
I got a new(old) ibook off ebay and have been busily setting it up. It has a slightly flakey screen, but I have a monitor, and I rearranged the workspace in the house, which I am really happy about. So that's working out well, though I need to upgrade to 10.4 so's I can run Scrivener, which I really want to do (see above for writing :-)). Wrestled with iTunes for hours and hours, but I think I pinned it and made it submit.
Other
Got a carboy for transfering the mead into. Had a truly lovely get together with
coffeeem and
willshetterly and discovered the most fabulous coffee drink: the Cubano. More of those certainly need to happen.
Books
After the squee of several people regarding
matociquala and
truepenny's "A Companion to Wolves" I toddled out and got it. Read it in one sitting. Wow. Wow. Wow. So satisfying. So engrossing. Not to mention thought-provoking. And Hawt.
the_emu you need to read this -- it is all up your alley. If it isn't available in Oz, I can send you a copy.
LJ
Not allowing myself to think too hard about the newest developments with 6/A and the new owners. I don't wanna have to move, dammit. Don't wanna loose track of the people.
