Venting

It appears to be the season for broken computers.

The mac, which has served me faithfully for (eeep, is it really 6 years?) six years, just. stopped. working. The mouse pointer froze in the middle of reading my email, the keyboard did not respond, hitting C-apple-power (the reboot-dammit command) did nothing but make the screen go dark. No starting up again at all. Right now I'm letting it sit unconnected to the power, and will see if after it rests a bit it will magically start.

I have nearly everything backed up. Nearly.

I don't have the most current version of the highlander-recs file that I was using to post recs to hl_recs, and will/would be using to post to crack_van next month.

Dammit dammit dammit.

I have an old version, but there are at least 4 stories I had in the new one that I want! The one I want the most is to a nice long story that starts with Methos being kidnapped and put in a 'nature preserve' by a guy who wants to collect his tools and artifacts. I don't remember how I found that story!

I am really really hoping that the nice people at the Apple Store can get it going again, or at least get my data off it.

At least I have the work machine. And work. But I don't have the $$ in the bank to get a new (or even a refurb) right now.

And the 'check engine' light has come on in the car. No scary noises at least.
