I haven't updated in forever. And my last update was under a super secret filter of only real life folk. So I thought I'd come on and let you know I'm not dead. I was switched projects half way through my last one, I got a contract extension until September 15. That means I will have made it through the shift work and have a chance to be a permanent fixture here.
Not sure if I mentioned this, but I'm delaying my masters by a year because if I wait, I can get resident tuition rather than foreigner tuition, so working for that year at a job I really like would be kean.
I've had to work all weekend this weekend because the devs in America are heathens and don't believe in the sanctity of the Easter bunny and bank holidays. I've been working since last Monday, I'm tired, and I still have four more days to go.
Dave and I are planning on going to Belfast next weekend to do some shopping for the new flat, but that's sort of dependent on whether or not the devs in America approve of us not working 20 day weeks or not.
Dave and I have a new flat, it's gorgeous, huge and bright. I love it, but it's still not quite put together yet, because Dave is sort of bad at undirected cleaning and organizing, and I'm working forever and a half.
I met Jamie of scumm_boy fame the weekend before last, and I was fully expecting it to be one of those lame "you're cool on the internet but I can't stand you irl" encounters, but was pleasantly surprised. Dave, Jamie and I got drunk in Burger King like all the classy folk, played DS, then ordered two bottles of wine up to his room to ride out the drunkenness. There was also some Dublin Castle and Guiness Factory seeing, but that's secondary reall.
Last weekend was the Smash competition for Dave. Last year, we went to a gaming convention called Leprecon. While there, we found out about a second gaming convention called Vaticon, and I asked if we could host a Smash competition there. It was a huge success, so we agreed to do it again last year. Dave liased with the convention, and I did most of the grunt work so he could enjoy the convention more. Dave came 4th in Melee, and 5th in Smash out of a 25 person competition, so he didn't place too badly. We had two of Dave's nephews and one of their friends up for the event, so our apartment was crowded, and despite two days off, I came out of the weekend more tired than anything else.
Then there's this weekend, work work work. Next weekend... international trip to Ikea. And then Dan of kingnixon fame lands on the Tuesday. He's here for two weeks, then he leaves, then a week later Dennis of feste fame comes with my cat. Then he's here for two weeks. And he wants to go to England while he's here.
I lead a busy life.
I fully intend June to be nothing as much as possible. Nothing on the weekends, nothing during the week, nothing nothing nothing. but right now, it's go go go, so you might not see me very much.
