Art: Don't Let the Sunlight Call You Homeward (PG) (Supernatural RPS JDM/JA)

For the spn_j2_bigbang Challenge, for akadougal 's story "Don't Let the Sunlight Call You Homeward" which is an (NC-17 rated) SF AU romantic/adventure featuring JDM/JA (Jefffrey Dean Morgan/Jensen Ackles), merpeople, undersea scenes, and soulbonding. (When it came to picking a story summary, this one was practically calling my name, so I pounced on it gleefully, and have had a great time painting underwater scenes and cheesy SF-style covers)

Four paintings, G and PG rated.

I was aiming for a cheesy 80s style SF (romance) style cover with font effects (and sparkly space uniform and device which owes some influence to Blake's 7). The cyclone forming between them on the planet is an unsubtle symbol of their forming soulbond, and I tried to do a few more symbolic things (JDM is standing within the image of his planet, but Jensen is standing partially in the planet and half in space, Jensen's body language is mixed between reluctance and grabbing hold, and he is leaning slightly back into the clinch because both he, in the story, and I have a bit of a sizekink thing).

This scene is their visit to an underwater garden. Jeff is gently discouraging an inquisitive fish from nibbling on his hair while Jensen is exploring the garden. Lots of experimental anatomy in this picture, not entirely successful! I chose reference images for both of them (in all the paintings) from about 2006, and in my imagination, they've both had personal trainers and CG assistance in getting them both ready for this role (or alternatively, it is the far future and they are both genetically engineered, so their bodies are a bit idealised)

Jensen has been genetically modified to survive undersea, and this is the first time he has noticed the scales on his back. He is meant to be looking in the mirror while undressing (and I figure he is struggling a bit with undressing underwater)

A very last minute sketch of JDM in his fancy outfit (because it sounded interesting and because he has a great face to paint)

Thank you very much to caz2y5 and
mific for helpful beta (I struggled to fix some of the problems, mostly because I always struggle with anatomy, but I'm very grateful for all the beta comments)
